  2. Hello,

I am attempting to graduate from the damned education industry and was hoping you could assist me with a paper I am writing to do with Ariel Pink. Please answer any or all of the following questions:

-What is it about Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti that you like/associate with?

-Does it matter to you if he is considered underground or not?

-What does APHG’s music say about Los Angeles?

-What do you think about Ariel Pink’s ego?
    -Is AP lo-fi?
-Please feel free to relate any personal anecdote, opinion on his progression and/or any other feedback.

    Thank you,
    A fellow APHG listener

  3. I like Ariel's literacy of musical styles.

I am more concerned with Ariel's ability to relax and create as opposed to whether he is considered 'underground'.

Regarding LA: Nature abhors a vacuum. I think his musical innovation is a byproduct of enjoying what he does.

Ariel's had to learn a lot about touring and being in the public eye. It seems like he's had less time to address how this effects his ego compared to other artists in order to grow.

Lo-fi is an acceptable characterization, IMO. Anachronistic songcrafting with comparable recording methods. Ballads are to Exotica as Pop is to Lo-Fi. The freedom to experiment and draw from the past is not confined as it would be as a consequence of consciously trying to produce a more 'safe' product with a massive advertising apparatus behind the artist.

Other feedback: There's a lot of criticism about 'hipster' culture in reference to Ariel. Sometimes it should be said that any publicity is good publicity, but more importantly not every artist is going to connect with an individual. We don't all have to like the same things. Should other people's opinions effect your enjoyment?
